Our team at TMJ & Sleep Therapy Centre of San Fernando Valley can more easily diagnose problems and plan precision treatments when we use the advanced i-CAT™ 3D imaging system. Because Dr. Farshid Ariz and Dr. Shadad Arami are able to see more of your maxillofacial structures with this state-of-the-art technology, we are able to provide a wide variety of dental and sleep therapy treatments. Contact our doctors if you would like to learn more about our i-CAT imaging in Northridge, California.
Unlike traditional 2D X-ray systems, i-CAT can expand to focus on areas and rotate in order to show different angles of the jaw bone, teeth, nasal passages, and more. This provides us with a lot of data, which allows us to more easily show patients what we will do when performing a treatment. 3D imaging also helps us to find problems and treat them with greater accuracy.
One of the benefits of i-CAT is that it can be used for more than just dental procedures. The scan begins at the nose and ends at the throat, allowing us to examine your airway. Scanning these areas is useful in some orthodontic cases. For example, a patient with a blocked or stuffed nasal passage may develop a narrow maxilla. If an orthodontist finds this problem through a 3D scan, then they can expand the area in order to improve a patients’ medical and dental health.
Having a detailed, 3D scan of a patients’ airway is also useful in providing patients with optimal sleep apnea treatments. If a patient cannot use a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine, then an i-CAT scan can help us to produce an oral appliance as an alternate treatment. The appliance will hold the jaw bone in a position which allows for improved airway volume while one is asleep.
If we scan your maxillofacial regions using i-CAT for sleep apnea and other problems, then we may take some of the following steps:
- Once we have scanned the airway and nasal structures, then we will determine if there is enough room in these areas by viewing the image on i-CAT’s TxSTUDIO software.
- We will rotate the scan so we can measure the dimensions and diameter of the posterior nasal pharynx and airway passage from multiple angles.
- Our team will take a close look at the nasal passage in order to determine its importance in overall airway diagnostics.
